Ted Lilly shines as Los Angeles Dodgers overwhelm Atlanta Braves 4-2 – MLB Update
Ted Lilly remained unhittable as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated Atlanta Braves 4-2 at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles on Monday, April 18.
The game had an equally good performance of James Loney who had two RBIs to his credit. Tim Hudson, the starting pitcher of Atlanta, was either unlucky or unimpressive as he was subject to massive hits, subsequently resulting in four runs, which added to
woes of the Braves.
Lilly was exceptionally good with his fastballs, as Matt Kemp did it with the bat. Kemp, who was singlehandedly responsible for the Dodgers’ victory against St. Louis only on Sunday was once again promising here. He opened the account of Dodgers by scoring
an RBI single in the very first inning. Kemp now has a distinguished .459 average and also has 13 RBIs in the 17 games he has played so far.
The game kicked off as Lilly came out to pitch for Los Angeles. Martin Prado of Atlanta was the first to face the seemingly unplayable and effective fastballs of Lilly. Ted incapacitated all the batters of the Braves in the first inning and finished it scoreless.
Provided with a good opportunity in Tim Hudson, Los Angeles batters went on relentless spree. Matt Kemp charged first, as he singled to centre where Aaron Miles scored and Casey Blake to second. James Loney then singled to centre where once again Blake scored.
With four hits and three runs, it was a good start for the Dodgers.
Ted, on the other hand, was constantly uncompromising with his unplayable fastballs. The 3-0 lead was reassuring for him and he employed all he had in his arsenal to increase the pressure on the Braves’ batters. The second inning saw no major hit either
for the Braves as Dodgers maintained an upper hand in the game. Los Angeles then saw Jerry Sands outsourcing Tim Hudson once again. Sands hit a sacrifice fly to right, where Juan Uribe scored and Loney to third.
Matt Guerrier who replaced Lilly did not disappoint the team and managed to get a shut-out inning, as the lead remained 4-0 until the eighth inning.
When Jonathan Broxton came to pitch for Los Angeles, replacing Guerrier, Atlanta seemed poised to give the Dodgers a surprise. The match took an interesting twist in the ninth inning when Freddie Freeman grounded to short-stop where Brian McCann scored and
Dan Uggla ran to third. Nate McLouth followed who doubled to right and Uggla scored. Three hits did give two runs to Atlanta, but that was hardly enough to avoid defeat. Broxton was somehow able to disallow Eric Hinske for a hit and contained the Braves to
two, thereby securing a 4-2 for the Dodgers.
