Ted Lilly sparks as Los Angeles Dodgers defeat San Diego Padres 2-0 - MLB Update

Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting pitcher, Ted Lilly had a notable day with the ball as he pitched just over six innings with an ERA of 4.12 and struck-out seven batters in the Dodgers’ 2-0 win against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park, San Diego on September
23.
During first inning, Justin Sellers ground out to pitcher, Dee Gordon and Matt Kemp both struck-out without taking any run for Dodgers. Similarly, Chris Denorfia was able to hit a single-run drive to centre-field but Jason Bartlett and Cameron Maybin both
flied out towards centre-field without getting any chance for runs.
Dodgers opened their scoring account in the second inning by taking one run and got a 1-0 lead. Jerry Sands added the first run for the Dodgers when Russell Mitchell ground out to third base. Third to sixth innings were score-less as the batters got out
on their sloppy shots. Maybin and Andy Parrino both walked at the bottom of the third inning but Denorfia struck-out in search of runs.
Bartlett hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to second base but Maybin got out at second base and Parrino occupied third base to end the third inning. Sellers drove a shot towards right-field but got out at second base when Sands hit a grounder into double
play, third to second base and second to first base.
Lilly permitted just two walks and four hits on his 99 pitches. Dodgers’ manager, Don Mattingly said, “What we talked about all year long is get ready to play and play. Don't give at-bats away, keep fighting and at the end of the year there are going to
be a pile of numbers there because he focused.”
Kemp said, “I haven't did it the whole season and I'm not going to do it the last five games. I'm not going to change it up. I just have to relax.”
Gordon reached to catcher on a bunt single during the sixth but Eugenio Velez and Lilly both struck-out swinging without extending the lead for the Dodgers. In the seventh inning, Kemp hit a solo homer (428 feet) towards right-centre to raise the Dodgers’
lead 2-0. The pitchers again shined in the final two innings by throwing perfectly.
However, Dodgers were on top with a 1-0 lead in the three-game series against the Padres at San Diego.
