Teddy Atlas dismisses critics after choosing Floyd Mayweather over Manny Pacquiao – Boxing news
One of the most well known trainers, Teddy Atlas, has dismissed the criticism he received for choosing Floyd Mayweather over Manny Pacquiao.
Critics say Atlas hates the eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion), Manny ‘Pac Man’ Pacquiao, and that is why he always picks up Floyd Mayweather over him.
After watching Mayweather’s recent fourth round knockout win over the Vicious, Victor Ortiz, Atlas believes the undefeated American legend, who now holds an incredible record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his fights coming by the
way of a knockout, will beat Pacquiao easily if their super-fight gets made.
This was a fight which many people thought was Mayweather’s showcase fight to prepare for Manny Pacquiao. However, Atlas is being criticised for picking up Mayweather over Pacquiao.
Therefore, Atlas responded to the critics by saying he has nothing personal against Pacquiao but he still believes Mayweather will win if a fight between both takes place.
The Fighting Pride of Philippines, Pacquiao, is currently rated as the ‘number one’ pound-for-pound boxer in the world and Atlas admitted that the Filipino star is a very skilled fighter. However, on the same note he stated Pacquiao has a lot of other things
to do in his country which can distract him during his preparation against Mayweather.
“They got idiots out there...and I’m glad I don’t go on the internet. They got idiots out there that will go, “You like Mayweather more than you like a Filipino.” What, are you stupid? What are you, an idiot? Are you a moron? You should go get yourself checked
in some psychiatric center you idiot. People think, “Oh, you don’t like Manny.” I like Manny. I admire the guy and I love the way he fights. I love what he has done with his life, but I’m just telling you my professional opinion. I think that the other guy
would win the fight,” Atlas told Fighthype.com.
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are the two biggest draw-cards of this generation and a fight between them will certainly break all the grossing records in the sport. Let’s see if this bout takes place in the near future.
