  1. I just bought a Syrian hamster about 2 months ago. When the first time I got her, she'll make defensive sounds or maybe yours is squeaking and sometimes even peed when I got near to the cage. I believe that those behaviour indicate that she is scared and hasn't been able to adjust herself to the new surrounding just yet. So what I did was I let her be by herself for a few days. Then I started to gain her trust day by day. At early stage, I only fed her from outside of the cage. Then, I let her get used to the presence of my hand by inserting my hand inside the cage. I put some treats on my hand and let her get the food by herself instead of me feeding her. I did that everyday so that she is used to my hands. I'm suggesting you to make sure that your hands are free from any food smell. Because the hamster might thing that it is food and tend to bite the hands. I got bitten several times though. I moved on to another stage by encouraging my Syrian to walk on my hands. When I opened the cage door, she tends to come near to the door and intended to go out. So all at once I put my hand right in front of the door as a platform for her to step out. And yes, she did step out and was on my hand. So from that onwards, I do that regularly until now she would walk on my arms and shoulders. I hope this might be helpful to you. GOOD LUCK and BE PATIENT.

  2. make sure you don't squeeze it when you are trying to stop it from running, it will become scared of you and you may hurt it (hamsters are very small with delicate little bones) try leaving it alone until tomorrow to let it get used to the new smells, surroundings, etc. if she squeaks when she hears loud noises she is frightened. try to keep loud noises to a minimum until she is comfortable in her new home. Hamsters will sometimes eat their own p**p, because the p**p is still rich in nutrients, they eat it so they can obtain those extra nutrients. (that's gross, i know)
