  1. The same chances of long hair is the same as short hair.So get the one that you like. It's the same chances. My sister used to have a hamster they are cute but not too much fun.I know that you don't want me to tell you to get another kind of pet but check out the other ones too.All my sister's hamsters did was really make a smell in the house and hide all day. When they were hungry they went to get some food and went right back to hiding. All I am telling you might like the other ones too.I know what you are going through.I wanted a hamster too but then I changed my mind when I saw how lazy they are.Check out the bunny rabbits too.Any rodents will make alot of smell.Hamsters don't have alot of energy.Rodents don't have alot of energy too.I now on tv you see hamsters with lots of energy running around in their cages but they dont really do that in real life.Good luck!

  2. i have a short hair hamster but they never get fleas as long as they are inside your house.

  3. Small rodents such as guinea pigs and hamsters can not have flea's sweetie!!!!

  4. try buying a shampoo for hamsters that removes fleas, or take it to the vet. . . see what he says. if you want to remove it by hands just get an old toothbrush, wash it and brush the hair to see if you could find them.

    good luck!

  5. long haired ones are cuter but you have to brush their hair. ive only had short hair and i loved having them

  6. At the moment, I have a short haired one. I have had long haired hamster, but they have never had fleas.

  7. The previous poster is incorrect - ANY warm, fur bearing creature can get fleas and that includes hamsters.

BUT, they have to be introduced and hamsters are indoor creatures.  Unless you have an outdoor cat or dog, it is difficult for fleas to come into the house.

Just make sure that you keep the cage clean and you will be fine.....

  8. i had both before and i prefer short hair

hamsters wont get fleas unless u take it outside(of ur house) in a dirty place.

short hair look nicer and more neat

long hair look messier but fun to comb their hair(i gave my hamster pig tail and brades even though im not suppose to)

there no difference betweenthe two except u need a soft tooth brush

  9. get wich ever one you are comfortable with when at the store handling them the friendlier the better remember looks are not everything

  10. I say go to the pet store and get the nicest YOUNG one you can find... If none are nice then wait or try other stores. I have two right now and one sadly passed away... But when the are really young it is hard to tell whether it will be a sort of long hair. It really doesn't matter though. But don't get one that is more than 5 months old. They get used to you faster when they are 2 or 3 months old and when they are older they may not get used to you at all.

  11. The length of hair of an animal never increases the likihood of getting fleas...it's just harder to get them out of a long haired animal.

I've owned hundreds of rodents, cats and rabbits, and never had fleas on a rodent. They can get them, but only by being handled on surfaces already infested with fleas.
