Ted’s Folly goes on to post his sixth in a row after landing the Springboard Mile on the closing day of the Remington Park meet
The 2-year-old Wilson L. Brown trained colt, Ted’s Folly, added the richest race for 2-year-olds at the Remington meet to his previous stakes triumphs, when he landed the $315,000 Remington Springboard Mile at Remington Park on 10 December, 2011, and in the process the talented colt registered his sixth consecutive victory as the 2011 Remington Park came to a close on Saturday.
Steve Martin owned son of Wild Tale, out of mare Tricksword by Sword Dance, Ted’s Folly was the only Oklahoma bred colt in the field of 12 juvenile colts. All his previous victories have come against state-breds in Oklahoma.
He bagged the Oklahoma Classics Juvenile in October and then went on to land the Oklahoma Stallion Stakes last month.
In the Springboard Mile, Ted’s Folly was up against Steven Asmussen’s trio, Basalt, Pleasant Closing and Seeker, who finished the race in 6th, 7th and 9th place, respectively.
There was another contender who was expected to do well in the Springboard Mile was the 2-year-old Tim Ice trained, No Spin.
The Kentucky bred son of Johannesburg, out of mare Dash for Money by General Meeting, No Spin was exiting a victory in his last start in the Royal Glint Stakes at about a mile on turf at Hawthorne race course on 29 October, 2011, where he covered the distance in 1 minute and 40.48 seconds.
However, the juvenile colt couldn’t make much of an impact in the Springboard Mile as she finished a non threatening fourth on the day.
While Ted’s Folly relished the Remington Park’s dirt course under jockey J Medina, as he has been in all his wins, topped the mile distance in 1 minute and 38.90 seconds as he defeated the runner up, Reckless Jerry, by 1 ¼ lengths, who zipped past Pee H Dee by a head.
Ted’s Folly turned heads by his amazing run, and his trained was all praise for him as well.
“Every time he runs, he’s fooled me,” Brown said after his first Springboard Mile victory. “He doesn’t look the part when you see him up against these big colts and only weighs about 900 pounds. But there’s none of them that have any more heart and none of them tonight had as much talent as he’s got.”
