Tee Jing Yi aims to help Malaysia secure a berth in Uber Cup Finals – Badminton news
Malaysia’s ace player Tee Jing Yi aims to help national team get success in the qualifying matches and secure a place in the Uber Cup Finals, which is set to take place in Wuhan, China, in May.
Jing Yi is confident to produce top class performance in the Uber Cup Qualifying Round, starting from February 13 in Macau.
Jing Yi, who has been placed at number 53 in Women’s Singles world placements, has a plenty of experience as she was a part of national team in the last two editions of Uber Cup Finals.
The 21-year-old Jing Yi is optimistic that her past experience will serve to a great deal in the upcoming Uber Cup Qualifying Round.
However, Malaysia has been drawn in the same group in which India and the top seed China will also compete for glory.
To win against China is virtually impossible for the Malaysian team as all Chinese females are ranked at the top in all categories of the game.
Besides China, winning against India will also be an uphill task for Malaysian females as Indian shuttlers also have respectable positions in the world rankings.
Nevertheless, despite having a lower world ranking, Jing Yi has high spirits to prove her worth against India’s Saina Nehwal, who will play the Women’s Singles opening fight of the match.
The Malaysian lady said that she will give her best against Saina no matter whether she wins or loses.
Jing Yi said, “India will definitely be tough because Saina Nehwal is a very good player but I will try my best to steal the game from her. I might lose, but even if I do I will go down fighting. Hopefully, the rest of the team will have the same fighting
spirit and confidence.”
While talking about quarter-finals, Jing Yi said that she would prefer to face Indonesia considering the Women’s Singles category but overall Thailand will be more favourable for Malaysia.
She said, “Personally, I would prefer Indonesia because their singles are weaker. But, as a team, we would be better off facing Thailand because our doubles should have two points in the bag. But we have to worry about advancing from our group first.”
Jing Yi wants Malaysian shuttlers to display team spirit and is optimistic for good results in the qualifying-round matches.
