Tee Jing Yi confident to put up good show at group stage in 2012 London Olympics – Badminton news
Malaysia’s top shuttler Tee Jing Yi, who qualified for the 2012 London Olympics by a stroke of luck, is confident to prove her worth at least at the group stage where she will be facing two higher ranked shuttlers.
The spirited Jing Yi, who is currently positioned at number 61 in Women’s Singles world ranking, has been playing competitive badminton for the last one year and has learnt a certain level of skills which are enough to spoil the party of any top shuttler on a given day.
The 22-year-old Jing Yi has been drawn in Group B in which Korea’s Bae Yeon Ju and Italy’s Agnese Allegrini will also compete for glory.
Both opponents of Jing Yi at the group stage are higher ranked shuttlers and she is determined to prove her worth by winning at least one match.
Jing Yi is the only Malaysian female shuttler in Women’s Singles category at Olympics and she is confident to justify her participation by putting up strong show at group stage.
While talking about her unexpected qualification for Olympics, Jing Yi it does not matter how she qualified for the mega event. She just wants to give her best to prove her worth.
She stated, “It doesn’t matter that I didn’t qualify on merit. I’m here and I intend to try very hard to win at least one match. This is a good opportunity to perform at the highest level even if I don’t have much chance of advancing to the next round.”
Jing Yi lost to Yeon Ju in their previous meeting but she will be facing the Italian shuttler for the first time and is determined to beat her.
She further added, “I played the Korean girl once before and lost, but this will be my first meeting with Agnese. Realistically, I’m looking at beating the Italian. It will be tough but I really want to give it my best shot.”
The spirited Jing Yi will play her first match against Agnese and she has got the skills to stamp her mark over the Italian at the group stage.
