Tee Jing Yi determined to put up a great show in Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold 2011 – Badminton News
Malaysian Women’s Singles shuttler, Tee Jing Yi, is determined to put up a great show by performing well in the Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, which is going to kick-off in Thailand, from June 7.
Young Tee Jing has gained a lot of experience by playing in the last week’s Sudirman Cup 2011, held in Qingdao, China. She played two matches in the mixed team event against Russia and Korea. Tee Jing emerged as the winner against Russia’s Anastasia Prokopenko,
but lost to Korea’s Bae Youn-joo.
Tee Jing is currently placed at the 140th spot in the Women’s Singles world rankings. She holds the top position in the national squad of Malaysia in the Singles category.
While talking about her performance in the Sudirman Cup, Tee Jing said, “It was never going to be easy playing against someone who is ranked among the top 10 in the world. However, it was a good learning experience for me as now I can gauge the level of
these top players in terms of speed and strategies on court.”
The 20-year-old further added, “Right now in the national team, I reckon that my level is almost the same as Lydia while the others are rapidly catching up with us. Therefore it is crucial that I make good use of this valuable experience to further improve
myself to become a world beater one day.”
The Malaysian shuttler will participate in the Thailand Open as a qualifier and will get into the main round after winning two matches in the qualifying draw.
If things proceed according to paper, Tee Jing will face Sayaka Takahashi of Japan in the opening round of the main draw. Malaysia’s Lydia Cheah and Sannatasah Saniru will join forces with Tee Jing in the Women’s Singles category in the Thailand Open.
The seeded players to contest in the Women’s Singles category in the championship are Saina Nehwal of India, Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand, Juliane Schenk of Germany and Jiang Yanjiao of China.
