Tee Jing Yi remains gritty to secure her berth in 2012 Olympic Games – Badminton news
Malaysia’s young and spirited female shuttler, Tee Jing Yi wants to perform well in the upcoming tournaments and qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games, which will kick off in the last week of July, in London.
Jing Yi, who has recently been positioned at number 53 in the Women’s Singles world rankings, has been playing competitive badminton for the last few months and is confident to qualify for Olympic Games.
The young Malaysian needs to reach into top 32 positions in the world to make the cut. According to the rules of Badminton World Federation (BWF) one shuttler from every nation, in Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles category, can compete in Olympics if he or she comes in the top-32 bracket.
Jing Yi needs to perform well in all upcoming tournaments in order to elevate her world rankings. Her upcoming event will be the Uber Cup Qualifying Round, which will be held in February, in Macau.
The young Malaysian is going to make her first appearance in the qualifying round of Uber Cup where she will play the first Women’s Singles fight.
After the qualifying round of Uber Cup, Jing Yi will compete in All England Open Premier Super Series. After that she will also participate in the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold, Asian Badminton Championships and India Open Super Series.
Jing Yi is determined to prove her worth in all these tournaments to get precious ranking points which will help her in finding a place in Olympic Games.
While talking about her recent performance, Jing Yi said that she has done well and looking forward to continue playing top quality badminton.
She said, “My world ranking has improved and I now know I have a shot at qualifying for the London Games if I push myself in the next few months. This is driving me to go all out.”
However, she added, “It’s still an uphill task against the top players from China, India and some European countries, but I’m able to take on the others. At least, I can give them a run for their money.”
Jing Yi has three months left to break into the top 32 positions in the world rankings and she is confident to make the cut.
