Tee Jing Yi unseats Lydia Cheah in title match of 2012 National Circuit Grand Prix Finals
Women’s Singles crown of Maybank National Circuit Grand Prix Finals belonged to Tee Jing Yi as she overpowered Lydia Cheah Li Ya in the title match on December 30, 2012.
Though, this final match concluded in just two games but still both contenders challenged each other in all departments and made the crowd gasp in local badminton complex of Alor Setar, Malaysia.
The spirited female shuttler Jing Yi showed strong character in pressure situations and managed to finish this battle with a favourable result of 21-18 and 23-21.
On the other hand, Lydia Cheah failed to follow an effective strategy and crashed out in a woeful manner.
However, it was not an easy win for Jing Yi as her opponent challenged her in all areas of the game throughout this battle.
Both compatriot shuttlers made their intentions clear straight away in the beginning of first set as they put all in their possession and injected life into the contest.
They pushed each other in all areas of the court but neither of them could make a notable difference on points table.
They remained equal until 5-5 but then Jing Yi showed superior badminton craft and gained a decent advantage.
She carried this flow in next couple of rallies and finished first half of the set with a respectable score position of 11.
After the mid-game break, Jing Yi did not lose focus at any stage and swept the table with a significant margin of 21-18.
The second set proved a real test of their mental and physical fitness as it remained in full swing until last shot was played.
Initially, Lydia Cheah raised her chances by ruling the court in couple of uninterrupted rallies but then a fluctuated performance put her expedition to halt.
Meanwhile, Jing Yi performed exceptionally well in pressure situation and saved the honour in splendid manner.
She had a sluggish start but few back-to-back productive rallies provided her the required momentum.
She manipulated every loophole masterly and earned the right to be on top of the victory stand. She registered a tight yet decisive score of 23-21 and became Women’s Singles champion of Maybank National Circuit Grand Prix Finals.
