Tee times: key at the British Open
The British Championship Open starts from the 19th of July and being a four-day event, it is supposed to end on the 22nd of July. The venue for this prestigious event is the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course. The best in the world
of golf are going to gather here to fight it out on this stage for the 141st British Open.
This tournament has always proven to be very difficult for the players as the weather conditions have not been always favourable. The tournament has proven to be very challenging and caused many problems for the participants.
This year the same would be expected. The outcome of the game could be decided on the time a player tees off. Timing is everything in this tournament.
It all depends on what sort of weather conditions a player will have to go through. Throughout England, it is raining almost continuously and the same sort of weather is expected during the tournament.
“Let's remember one thing about the Open Championship — you can lose it just because of your tee times if the weather turns badly in your favor,” said two-time major winner and golf analyst Curtis Strange.
“So if Tiger Woods doesn't do well, if Phil Mickelson doesn't do well, if Lee Westwood doesn't do well, whoever it might be, it might not be because of their play, it might be because they're behind the 8-ball to start with,” he added.
“They might play well, finish well, but really have an impossible task of winning because of the changing weather”.
He has made it clear that, in the British Open, one’s game has a smaller part to play than tour luck. It is just a matter of what time a player starts and what conditions he gets to play in.
For this particular reason, there has been tremendous amount of criticism from the players of the tournament and there have been many complaints.
On this, Tony Jacklin said that no matter how bad the conditions get, there still is going to be a winner after the four days. So players should quit whining and concentrate on their game.
