Teemu Selanne returns for one more year as he re-signs with Anaheim Ducks -NHL Update
The Finnish Flash, the hockey veteran, the age-defying adventure, Teemu Selanne has announced that he is going to return as he made an official announcement about the signing of his new contract with Anaheim Ducks.
Teemu Selanne, who thinks it is not over yet and he still has got more to offer will return for his 20th season in the National Hockey League (NHL).
The 42 year-old could also end up being the NHL’s oldest player next season but he still is not showing any signs of slowing down or giving up.
He had lead Anaheim Ducks' scoring last season as he top scored with 26 goals and 40 assists earning him total of 66 points.
The only player to score more goals than Selanne’s 66, at the age of 41 years was Gordon Howe who had scored 31 goals, 40 assists earning him 71 points in 1969-1970 season when he was playing for Detroit Red Wings.
When asked about his age in an interview on a phone call, Selanne gave a very interesting answer that he does not feel he was growing old or anything. He feels age is just a number, nothing else. It all depends of the feelings and how you go about it.
Teemu Selanne said, "Sometimes, age is just a number. Age is a funny thing. A lot of times, I don't really feel 42. It's just a number. It all depends on how you feel."
The right winger’s statistics clear show the class of the player and tell how much he has achieved in the game of Hockey. In top goal scorers list he is ranked 12th in the NHL and another good reason might bring him in the top 10.
He is just two goals short of 11th ranked Jaromir Jagr, who has 665 and just five short of Luc Robitaille, who has got 668. He is ranked 19th on the overall points list of NHL as he has 1406 points. If he gets 66 points like he did
last year that would take him to 14th in the list and he needs just 20 points to go 4 places up to 15th place in the list.
