Teemu Selanne still on the free market, no certain decision as of yet by veteran –NHL offseason Update
As the regular season comes closer and closer to start, it seems like Teemu Selanne, a former 10th overall pick during round-one of the 1988 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by Winnipeg Jets is nearing to his retirement.
Teemu Selanne, a former and current legend does not deserve being called anything less than a future hall of famer, which is once he officially retires that is.
Having played his 18th season in the North American major league, Selanne packs a well rounded and extremely experienced punch that any team would be extremely lucky to have.
The situation is not that Anaheim Ducks are unwilling of signing him back, which might be the view of some people, but the Western Conference franchise is more than happy to have him back, as long as he is playing happily and healthy.
Unfortunately, Selanne has not played a full 82-game regular season since the 2005-2006 season, and has seen a gradual drop in his performance as well, prior to the beginning of the previous season.
Even though his stats were falling, Teemu Selanne performed a miracle and put up 80 points (31 goals, 49 assists), his highest since the 2006-2007 season, in only 73 games played.
It has been over a month since postseason matchups finished up for Anaheim Ducks, following a knee surgery which Selanne underwent, but still has not announced his decision whether the 41-year-old will be returning for the next season or not.
The Finnish legend boasts one of the greatest NHL records of 1,259 games played, in which he has scored 1,340 points (637 goals, 703 assists) along with an accumulated plus-minus rating of 98.
The veteran right winger is expected to announce his decision anytime within the upcoming weeks, but these are according to unofficial sources. Nothing certain can be said at the moment seeing the crucial nature of the decision to be made. If retirement
is Selanne’s plan, than Anaheim will be losing their second highest shooter, but if he decides to stay, it will be only with Anaheim, as he expressed earlier.
