Teemu Selanne to rest on whether to play next season or not –NHL Update
It was a last minute decision that got Teemu Selanne to play another season in the National Hockey League (NHL) with Anaheim Ducks and this time, the Finnish Flash plans on the doing the same as he plans on resting on it before making an official announcement.
Obviously, Anaheim will be doing all they can to get the legendary forward to play another season with them seeing how he keeps on getting better but getting some time off from a hectic 2011-2012 NHL regular season could change his mind either way.
Finishing which could possibly be his last regular season in the major league out of the playoffs and ranking as one of the last place teams, it definitely was not something to be proud of.
"Obviously it was tough to finish the season like this. Not making the playoffs is very disappointing," said Selanne. "The last three games have been tough to get ready. With nothing on the line it was more like survival mode, trying not to get hurt but
still enjoy the game.”
Despite a disappointing outcome to the season, Selanne is still proud of his accomplishments that span over a 19+ year long career as one of the best to have ever graced the sport.
"I still had a great time," Selanne said. "Every day I had a huge smile on my face to come to the rink. That's something that's most important for me. I still enjoy the game and play pretty well, so that's what's really I'm very happy about.”
Closing in on the age of 42, Selanne has continued to be one of the best in the league as he led the Anaheim club with 66 points (26 goals, 40 assists) in all 82 games played with 50 minutes in penalty time.
If Teemu Selanne decides to play for one more season, Anaheim could well expect a change in overall performance as the Finnish Flash will definitely be focusing on making it a team effort towards the playoffs and maybe even a run for the Stanley Cup championship.
An announcement from the Finnish legend can be expected in the later part of the offseason.
