Teen Pauline and Dreaming Of Julia in for giving one another a hard time in the Spinaway Stakes
The 121st running of the Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes can easily be recognised for pulling together one of the strongest and competitive fields ever. The seven furlong race on fast ground will be raced at Saratoga on Sunday, 2nd September.
Seven juvenile fillies have turned for the race to claim their share in the $300,000 purse. The unquestionable favourites for the race are, Teen Pauline and Dreaming Of Julia, as both belong to one of the most successful stables in horse racing.
Besides these two, there are three more candidates for the fillies’ test who have come clear out of their special weight maiden and that too at Saratoga.
The two-year-old Kentucky bred, Teen Pauline, broke the five furlong special weight maiden on 25th July, 2012 at Saratoga. Tapit’s filly out of mare, Effectual, did not even take an entire minute to make it to the wire taking only :56.53 seconds
for declaring dominance.
The Steven M. Asmussen trained was paired up with jockey, J. Leparoux and the Stonestreet Stables LLC owned filly will be able to reap benefit out of the companionship of the same jockey today too. The duo will take the rails as they have drawn the first
gate to race from. The surface too remains the same as the maiden’s.
The filly holds an entry in the Sorority Stakes too.
Teen’s Pauline’s fiercest rival for the race today belongs to the same owners, Stonestreet LLC, Dreaming Of Julia. The Todd. A. Pletcher conditioned broke through her special weight maiden on 8th June, 2012 at Saratoga over 6 ½ furlongs.
Daughter of A. P. Indy out of mare, Dream Rush, reached the wire in a minute and :16.48 seconds while riding with jockey, J. Velazquez. The rider for the Kentucky bred remains the same for the race, and the two will break from the sixth gate.
Dreaming Of Julia is preferred as she has raced over 6 ½ furlongs which is the closest to the distance today, while Teen Pauline has only experienced the five furlong maiden distance.
One filly has the distance favouring her while the other has the advantage of breaking from the first gate, which one will make the most out of the favouring elements, will surface soon.
