Teen and child share room. Ideas?

I'm 16. My sister's nearly 6. We share a room which is quite small with us both in there but still a decent sized room. We have two walls each - hers are one white and one baby pink with disney princess wall stickers while mine are one white and one where the alcoves are black and the chimney breast is wallpapered with black and white stylish paper.

We're going for a black, white and pink theme but need ideas how to finish our room with furniture and accessories. We have two seperate beds, two seperate desks, one set of shelves each, one small shared wardrobe, one shared chest of drawers and she has several toy boxes and dollshouses.

Does anyone know any good tips/websites about teen and child bedrooms?

  1. How about turning it into a 30's - 40's type room? Black, white, and pink - add in boas, dangling beads (shiny) from 2nd hand light fixtures that you painted white. Add in fames, maybe a "makeup bench", a black and white shag area rug or two next to each of your beds. This could turn out to be very "princessy" for your sister, but grown up for you. It's nice to see you working this out in this way with your little sister. What a role model you are. Good Luck - LT

  2. Would you be able to hang a curtain from the ceiling like they have in hospitals?  Make it a stylish one and you can open and close it as needed.  You could make it two sided so it would have one fabric on one side for you and one on your sister's side for her.  Maybe you could hang a metal rod from the ceiling and get some rings for easy open and close.

You sure are sweet to be doing this.
