Teen being an authorized user on credit card questions?

So I'm 15 and I just got a job. I'm getting a debit card for my money and I just came across this thing call an authorized user today. Don't say I don't need a credit card, I know that. It would be for emergencies or shopping when my dad says I can if he doesnt' have cash.

Can I get one as a minor? Like my own card under the same account.

How does it work?

Can he set limits and lock it? That's the important part.

Answer anything you might think I would want to know.

Just tell me everything about it!

Thanks!

  1. You yourself cannot get your own credit card in your name until you are 18.  However, some companies will allow parents to add their children as authorized users on their accounts which means you would get your own credit card in your name and the bill would go to your parents.  I think they might even have cards out there where your parents can set a limit of how much you can spend and would be able to view everything you bought.

  2. He would have to add your name as an authorized user under his account and you would get your own card to use.  As far as I know, there can be no limits, except in this case it being a debit card obviously if you spend more than what he has in his account it will get denied at a store.  The main person on the account cannot set certain limits, you have entire access to the account as if it were in your name, as well.
