This is just a reflection on American society that has been deteriorating over the last 25-30 years.  Get ready folks because it's not going to get any better.  America as I knew it growing up is gone.  In a society of instant notoriety for bad reason often more than good and we've taught young people that it's not their fault, just as the mother did on the Today show, what do you expect.  There is no accountability left.  I feel sad not just for the girl who took the beating but also for the future of our country that I served in the military for 22 years for.  God save America before it destroys itself.

The sad part about this whole thing is that one of the parents defended her teen for doing such a horrible thing.  True, the other girl shouldn't have said mean and vicious things, but face it, that is high-school. Just because some bad words were said about someone else does not justify a gang beating.  If this parent was wise and responsible she would have taught her child that confronting a situation and talking about it calmly and rationally is the best way.  Most schools have peer mediation, since these girls were cheerleaders, I am surprised that they did not talk to someone.  As far as jail time, no maybe they shouldn't be tried as adults, however, I think that they should stay in juvenile detention until they are eighteen.  In my opinion if you take away what is most important to these girls, i.e. prom, getting their license, graduating with their friends then maybe they will realise that they were guilty and be remorseful.

I think it's stupid.  What's the really sad part about all this, is that town where they're from is Lakeland, FL, where I went to college.  

I grew up in Polk County, FL.  Of all the places in the US to do that c**p, it had to be my home county.

I would like to see any one of them go toe-to-toe, one-on-one with some of the people I know.  Anybody can beat someone's *** in a large group.  What kind of ******* are these guys for beating up some young girl?

They all need to get exactly what they deserve -- hard time, just like anyone else, regardless of their gender, race, class, or status.

I am a fierce believer in "what goes around comes around" -- call it karma, fate, whatever, but each one of them will get what's coming to them long after this.  Next time, it may be their own children or family members getting their asses whopped senselessly.  Ridiculous.

I had heard 15 years ago from old age relatives how the kids in Florida were really dumb psychopaths who threw bottles out of cars at old people and didn't even act human in any way.  Between that and the horrible voting fraud of Bushes' election plus them upping the primary and ruining the Democratic people's say-so in their government, I would say "What in the h**l is in their water to cause such psychopathic misfit ugly b*****d adults and kids to live in that swamp?"  I used to go to Florida every year for vacation, now consider it worse than Iraq to be avoided.  The thousands of dollars I and my relatives spent there in the 80's in tourism will sure be going to a place that values peace and democracy.  Florida should be given to Cuba, and my tourism and retirement money won't see a cent spent there.

I think they should all be fixed so they cannot have children. They should each have a 20 minute beating with a potato in a sock and then spend at least 10 years behind bars.

I am really sick of teenagers getting off with horrendous crimes because they are thought to be too young to know better. BS...they know...they just don't care.

You know all them girls probably came up with some great reason to get her in the house...maybe "hey we really like you and want you to be our friend..."  The mother is so embarrassed about her daughter that what can she do?  If I did something like that my mother wouldn't get on tv...she isn't dumb.  She would say...you're on you're own.  I think they will do time.  The courts have to set an example so that this may be prevented.  Very sad and sick.  This girl was probably right about what she wrote about her friends for them to get this enraged!
