Teen/young adult romance books???

I'm 18 years old and i'm looking for some new books to read. something with romance and maybe some serious issues like s*x/drugs/alcohol/rape/abuse, etc.

most of the teen books are a little too sheltered for my taste. Like one kiss? that's it?? you know? haha i was just looking for something a little more adult but not venturing into like cheesy adult romance novels (like Lifetime Network status).

i LOVE the Twilight series and i just finished Sarah Dessen's lock and key which i liked as well...

hope someone can help me. :-)

  1. If you haven't already, you MUST read the books Tithe, Valiant, and Ironside by Holly Black (Tithe first since its a series). They're about faeries, but not like tinker bell or anything! They're not your usual mushy romance books. They're dark and grungy with lots of quirky romance, but still beautiful at the same time. Valiant deals with drug abuse (not your usual drug). It really is my favorite of the three. You can find the "whole girl saves guy or guy saves girl kind of thing" in them too! Please, please read them! Haha! Good luck finding a book you like!

  2. I think you should read:

    The Notebook - Nicholas Sparks

Ready or Not - Meg Cabot

Those two are really good =]

  3. i hear the host also by stephenie meyer is that kind of story

  4. nicholas sparks book are amazing!

I recommend, of course the notebook, and message in a bottle (lots of s*x, haha)

also anything by jodi picoult, The Pact perfectly fits into your categories and My Sisters Keeper (not really romance at all but still amazing!)

  5. Books with serious romance you can find from

the author Julie Garwood; I highly recommend

For the Roses (it has romance + comedy).

If you end up loving it just as I did then try the sequels

    The Clayborne Brides &

    Come the Spring

I came across For the Roses when I too was looking for

a romance novel after I finished reading the Twilight saga

You would definitely love For the Roses

  6. Uglies Series by Scott Westerfeld. It's about a girl named Tally who goes through the ups and downs of being an ugly, pretty, and special. has lots of action and romance.

The Princess Diaries is a little romance-y, but it's really funny and interesting, not at all like the movie.

The twilight series is also my favorite. i've heard that the Host is really good, but i haven't read it yet.

  7. Some books that I think you will really like - i loved them all are:

Speak  - (Serious issues but really interesting)

Go Ask Alice -  (Intense and deep stuff that was a true story, they were pages from an anonymous diary)

The Lovely Bones (Heavy stuff but really captivating)

    Cut

    Dear Zoe

The Gemma Doyle Trilogy (A Great and terrible beauty, rebel angels, and the sweet far thing- are all 3)

This Lullaby - (interesting and funny girl and guy relationships)

    hope that helps!

  8. You might like books by Marian Keyes.  They're chick-lit, generally romantic-comedy type, but often address issues like addiction (Rachel's Holiday), and pregnancy (Watermelon).  They're adult books, but easy reads and not at all steamy romance.

  9. I recently wrote a book called City of Dreams, it's about a 25 year old girl who escapes a bad relationship and moves to New York, where she encounters a man from her past. He saves her in more ways than one, so it might be right up your ally. I wrote this book in hopes of getting away from that stereotypical cheesy romance novel genre. It's got comedy, drama and romance. In my opinion it's the whole package (Although I may be a bit bias). Anyway if you're interested you can get more information here:

  10. The Uglies, Pretties, Specials, Extras books by Scott Westerfeld have non-stop action, romance, and are truly unique. One of my favorite reads.

The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling isn't exactly a romance story and doesn't involve serious issues, but a definite must-read. Propelling and action-packed. There is a reason J.K. Rowling is richer than the Queen of England.

Peeps, by Scott Westerfeld is really good and amazing, especially if you liked the Twilight Series. Full of romance and action in equal parts, a lovely novel.

    Good Luck!
