My 17yrs old son is about to pass his driving exam and then go through the pass plus test too. We were looking to buy him a cheep second hand car for about £500 but when it came to insurance we have been repeatedly quoted around the £3500 mark for third party. Does anyone know where I can get cheep insurance for a boy?

  1. Check confused.com and gocompare.com

Also check Directline as they usually have quite good price quotes. You are looking in to cheap to insure cars aren't you? Ford Fiestas, Micras, Corsas, Polo's etc?

You shouldn't accept anything more than £1500 for a young teenager to insure a small engined hatchback.

  2. TBH that's the best you going to get for a new young driver, he has no experience, and it's cheaper for girls, cause boys are more likely to speed and show off, hence the term "boy racers".  It does suck that there are geniune decent young drivers out there.

  3. i would try places which specialise in young male drivers. when he does his test, the examiner will give him a magazine which has loads of adverts in there for insurers like this. they also have a list of insurers who specialise in modified vehicles and convicted drivers. try the following links.

  4. Hello, I am 17year old and I had the same problem my insurance is £3,700 and its third party only that’s the cheapest I found there will be no more cheaper then £3000  and I tried  confused.com and gocompare.com and they gave me this price

  5. Have u tried confused.com? who ever quotes u the cheapest on there go direct to the companies website because it sometimes works out cheaper! good luck
