Question:

Teenage Girl Paris-themed Bedroom- What To Do For Walls!!??

by  |  earlier

I'm making over my bedroom with this bedding:

http://store.delias.com/browse.do?categoryKey=roomwares.room.french&splashTrack=room&incmpid=RoomBL

and other Parisian-looking items.

I decided I don't want just plain-colored walls, I want something different and exciting! So I know I want stripes, but I don't know what color stripes I should have...the furniture will be painted white, and I have a medium-sized bedroom.

So should I paint the stripes hot pink and white?

My only problem is I don't want it too little-girlish, so if I do light pink and white walls, I think it will look like a 5 year old's bedroom, not a 15 year old's.

My color options for the walls would be white, grey, black, light pink, or hot pink. Any combination of those would be fine, but I only want 2 colors.

Also, I'm not sure if I should do horizontal stripes or vertical stripes...

What do you think I should do for the colors?

And Horizontal or Vertical??

THANKS!!

:D

  1. Since you're going to be using a bedding that has print, you should go for a solid color for your walls. Either way, print&print don't go well together (unless if it has the same exact design).

However, if you want your walls to stand-out, then I suggest you leave one wall white and (maybe) paint the opposite side hot pink or black. :)

  2. Depends what part of France you're imitating.

They tend to like verticle black or dark stripes on their furniture, particular bombe chests.  For walls, you can make stencils out of the nation royal symbol of the Lily and the Sacred Heart (see Louis XVII Death holds no secrets) and use the background paint to be grey or a grey-ish blue, and then the stencils to be a very light blue. Then add some gold-yellow and also dark red objects as a power colour.  Bedspread, something light.

No pink. If you want pink, then go with a pink-black-white theme and ham it up modeling it after paris. But, that's so cliche'.

Edit: I noticed a lot of people are saying horizontal. A big fat NO to that. French are diagonal or verticle and almost never go for horizontal. Its far too boring.

  3. what if you did grey and white (or black and white) stripes that would be horizontal on the wall...then you could make an outline of the Eiffle tower on your wall and in that space you would switch the colors of the stripes.....so that like outside the tower one stripe would be white, but on the inside of the tower shape the same stripe would instead be colored black. Otherwise, an idea I've always had was to get a big poster of a window with a view of the Eiffle Tower and below the poster I would put a small cafe table with two chairs...you could use it as a desk for doing homework or you could put some flowers on it......

  4. What i think you should do, is get the eiffel tower painted on the biggest wall in your room, or the one your bed faces, and make it look like a night in Pairs. Have the moon and the buildings and

the lights, and the people. It would look so gorgeous with everything you have. And it will complement your other colours nicely and add that touch of sophistocation to the room.

  5. the walls could have little or big eiffel towers on them

  6. HOT PINK AND bLAckkK

AND IF U CANT DO THAT THEN JUST HOT PINKK

UR ROOOM WILL BE HOOTTT  Lolz

    HORIZONTAL FOR HOT PINK

    AND VERTICAL FOR BLACKKKk

    yaya

    lolz

d**n ur roomm GONNA be sexyy

    lol

  7. black and white is always classy , and i would stick with vertical strips because horizontal would make it look like a jailcell (:

  8. I would do the horizontal stripes and make sure that they are think, like 1.5 or 2 ft (thinner ones might look little girly).  Pink and grey OR both of the different colored pinks would look really good.  If you do pink and white it may look to matchy-matchy and that would also look little girly...Hope that helped!

  9. black and hot pink! especially if your furniture's gonna be white. whats the floor like? and i think you should do the stripes horizontal because it'l make the ceiling seem higher and like you have more space. also you could paint over like every 5th black stripe with glitter because if your worried it might be a bit girly, don't paint it over the pink!

    hope that helps!!

  10. what about light and hot pink wall stripes going down.  and put pictures of paris all over with some paris style furniture

  11. I think a soft pink is the best.  Plus, as you get older, you can adjust the bedding and furniture to whatever suits you.  In addition, if you were to move out, switch rooms or sell the house, the light pink could easily be covered up with any color.  What purpose do you want in your room?  Looking up the 'moods' of different colors can help you decide.  I don't really like the bedding, but I think if you grow out of it, you can easily change it.  I love these stripes, especially the height/width.  I agree that 2 colors is enough for stripes.  More than two might make it look like a beach towel.  Well, ENJOY!!!  link: http://images.meredith.com/bhg/images/20...

  12. if you want sort of those really nice looking walls like you would see on trading spaces; have the eiffle tower painted on one wall. and the rest have a white light pink wall and gray and white stripes. get what i mean? ahha(:

  13. i like the eifel tower decal! you should have you and your friends paint the landscape of paris on your walls. it'll be a great memory. you should also use glow in the dark pink paint and white. that would be so amazing! you can paint the walls grey with the black and pink paint to make the buildings/windows. technically grey and black are the same color.. just a different tone.

  14. Are you aiming for a French shabby chic look or Parisian theme, with, I dunno...pictures of the Eiffel tower or a french boudoir? - I'm not quite sure what you mean.

If you mean shabby chic then keep it pale furniture painted white and then rubbed down so the base shows through.   , Hot pink and white stripes does sound nice  for the walls.  Maybe just one wall or so though.

If the French boudoir look is what you're after then go for the richer colours keeping everything red or gold.

Edit:  Actually for a proper Parisian look you should be pinning the bedding material to the wall (anyone who's stayed in a Parisian hotel will know what I mean!)

  15. What about a chair rail in the middle of the wall spanning the room, with white underneath and pink/gray (or brown) DIAGONAL stripes up top?

  16. I think you should horrazontilly paint them light pink and grey..

thats what i would do!! hope you look into this idea

    Hope this helped

    :] Good luck :]

  17. My mom did this and vertical black stripes on white is the way to go!  My mom wallpapered.  If you're going to paint, striping is going to take a lot of measuring and masking.  Use a pattern like thin-thick-thin space thin-thick-thin as far as the stripes.  Very Chic!

  18. Well defiantly do not do the whole wall stripes that would look weird! But i have the perfect idea, Paint the walls white then do a horizontal border in along the middle of the wall in 2 colors one on top od the other hot pink and black, then hire some1 to come in and in a free space or if your rly daring behind your bed a mural of the eiffel tower that would look awesome!hope it helped!

  19. this is pretty:

  20. For the walls, depending on the room, you should really consider the girl's personal tastes.  If she were older, I would suggest a bold Black & White.  Black on the wall of which the bed would be posted on and the wall directly opposite.

But since we're talking about a 5-year old, who's going to grow up into the room.  I would go for a pale pink and gray main color (darker color up against the bed and opposite wall) and designs of pink (her choice of how extreme), black and gray floating around the walls.  Nothing too much to cover the entire thing but just enough to get the point across

  21. Well, I know you didn't mention this, but I think that a big poster or mural of paris on the wall behind your bed would look really cool. and then you could have maybe black and white vertical stripes on the other walls. i think that'd look pretty cool. or if u don't like the mural/poster idea, you could do stripes on all the walls.
