Teenager Matteo Manassero emerges clubhouse leader at Maybank Malaysian Open – Asian Tour
The Maybank Malaysian Open finally teed off on Thursday at the beautiful layout of the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, Kuala Lumpur.
The event which features all the top players has produced some good scores already.
A few notable players are yet to tee off. They had a late start in the afternoon. As expected, there would be young players who would show their talent in this four-day championship. It is Matteo Manassero of Italy who is the clubhouse leader after completing
his first round.
The course conditions early morning were in great shape. The players who had an early morning tee off took full advantage of the conditions as there were a couple of under par scores. Some of the notable players were also among the red numbers.
The young sensation from Italy leads the field carding a fantastic round of six-under par, 66. He is now the clubhouse leader. He had a total of eight birdies and two bogeys. The teenager finished his round with four consecutive birdies on his last four
holes.
Manassero also had two drop shots on his score card. They came on hole numbers 6th and 12th. It was his putting and driving which helped him post such an amazing score. He has already shown the world that he has the ability to compete
against the best. With such an early lead in the tournament, one has to watch out for him. It was certainly his day with the putter as he was holding his putts during the round.
The teenager is followed by India’s ace player Jeev Milkha Singh. Singh played promising golf during the round and is currently placed at the second position with a score of five-under par, 67. He is just one shot behind the clubhouse leader.
The veteran had six birdies and a single bogey on his score card. With a good start like this, he already has sent a warning to other players on the field. His only bogey came on the par-4, 7th where he missed the fairway.
Singh is an experienced player and knows about the conditions of the Asian courses. His experience certainly helped him during the first round and is just one shot behind the leader.
