Teens... Do you think parents would be suprised to know how many of us drink and smoke ?

I'm 14 and i dont do any of that stuff.

But Do you think parents would be suprised to know how many of us actually do that stuff?

i think they would be shocked.

I don't think so, because they were teens once themselves. In fact, twice as many teens used to smoke as smoke today and it was much more accepted -- a lot of high schools had areas where the kids could smoke.

In the 70's there was a thing for preteens smoking, you had kids starting at 7, you'd walk down the street and see preteens on bikes and they all had cigarettes in their mouths, and they were allowed to smoke at home.

I started smoking when I was 10 and had my first drink around that age as well. My Dad was born in 1920, he'd be 88 if he were alive today, and he started smoking when he was 12. My mom was born in 1929 and she started I think in high school -- my grandmother told me that the kids in her high school were allowed to smoke in class! This stuff really isn't new.

I think there was also more teen s*x a few years back, at least there was more teen pregnancy. And I know there was more pot use in the 70's or 80's, and acid as well.

On the other hand, I did read somewhere once that parents tend to think their kids haven't done as much as they actually have at a given age, e.g., they'll think their kid might first try drinking at 13 when he tried it at 10 or 11.

yes i think that they would be very supprised although i regret it alot i mean getting into smoking and getting drunk once i mean it was only once but still lol i dont think parents kno what kids are getting into these days especially with pot and all that nasty stuff.

my parents wouldnt be surprised because i dont do it. but actually a lot of adults would be more suprised at how many of us dont do it

I really don't think they would be surprised b/c there is so much peer preasure . I believe everyone is going to try something one time or another in there life.

Nope cuz its theyre job as parents to be informed so unless theyre ignorant then they would be surprised but theyre supposed to prevent theyr sons and daughters from following the crowds. Its pretty hard not to know considering all the ads and shows the government play every year to inform both parents and kids about other kids doing drugs and all that stuff. So i doubt parents r really shocked about how many kids there r. I think theyd be really shocked to find out theyre kid was doing that sort of stuff though unless they supported it.

You would be wrong on that.  I have a 14 year old and am not naive enough to think she isn't or will try drinking or smoking at some point.  Us parents were once 14 ourselves and believe me our kids would be surprised to find out what we got up to at that age!

Trust me... I expect it... I was a teenager that long ago and I was a pretty unruly one who smoked and did drugs... i never really drank and still don't...

I would prefer my child smokes pot over cigs or alcohol... or crack or heroin.

I plan on not being a n**i about it. If they follow in the footsteps of me and their father it is harmless fun and will grow out of it.  I expect them to smoke as me and the father do... I don't say I will condone it but I half expect it...

Well parents are weird. Some of them assumer you're doing everything and then other parents are like "WHAT?? TEENAGERS HAVE s*x? SINCE WHEN?"

But overall i think they would be surprised.

I am 23 years old mother of three i turn 24 in 11 days.  Anyways you don't honestly think this is something new do you?  This is not the first generation to start drinking and smoking at a young age.  My parents are pushing 50 and 60 and have been around the block once or twice.  They are not naive by any means and ether am i!  Besides why does a 14 year old want to drink and smoke?  Do they think it makes them cool?  How cool am i to smell like an ashtray and drink till i throw up and then wake up with a hang over.  YEP SO COOL!

well, yeah for the most part... my parents (well, my mom atleast) know exactly what each of my froends are into, s*x drugs smoking drinking you name it, and the know my mom knows. she doesnt care because she knows im not that easily influenced.... she knows i ocassionaly smoke (like 1/3 or 1/2 a smoke wen im w/ certain friends. i just do it fr the h**l of it, and its onl,y like 2 or 3 times a year...

my mom lets me have the ocasional drink, when were at home alone to 'satisfy my curiosity'  so ill have a small glass of wine of a few sips of margarita or something, no where near emough to get me drunk though'!

Parents were once teenagers like us. They've gone through the same things. I think they'd be shocked because they see their kids doing the same thing they did many years ago.

yeah. i don't do it either because I personally think it's stupid. But yeah, considering how shocked my older brother [22] was just to hear that 4 kids in my grade got arrested for marijuana possession.. think of what parents would think!

I think that a lot of parents don't know how different the average teen is today than it was when they were teens.  Now you have 12 year olds getting pregnant for crying out loud!!! And a 12 year old isn't even a teen yet!!!!  When I was 11, thats when everybody in my school started doing drugs and drinking.  And its not like we lived in a bad naighborhood, we were one of the highest ranking schools in the state!! Amazing really...how many people do it right under their parents noses and get away with it....

I think that most 14-year-olds would be shocked to know how many parents know exactly what they're doing!  My daughter is 14, and I know what most of the kids at her school have been up to.

How do I know?  Well, for one thing, I'm not stupid.  Kids aren't always that good at hiding things, so it's usually pretty obvious what they've been doing.  But I also hear about it; from my own daughter and her friends, and from other parents.  You might think there's a lot of gossip among people your age, but adults are just as bad!  Parents love to share what they've heard about this kid or that kid.  Secrets don't stay secret for very long.

Does it surprise me?  Not at all.  I was 14 once, and people were smoking, drinking, etc. even then.  Why would things be any different now?

I don't drink or smoke and I never will in my life, but my parents would be very shocked to see how many kids at my school show up to class totally wasted.
