Teens do you think you could adjust to the life Anne Frank lived?

Being confined in small spaces, surrounded by people you didn't like very much, never being able to see or talk to your friends, never going outside, having to spend most of the day sitting and being as quiet as possible. Eating food you didn't like, sometimes going hungry when there wasn't enough food. Never having privacy except in the bathroom. Only being able to listen to radio at 'safe' hours, Having to put up with rude comments from adults on just about anything you say or do. Sharing your room with a grumpy old man. never being cool enough, or warm enough, being scared all the time.

Could you do it? Or would you run away, taking your chances of being picked up on the street and taken to the camps.

  1. it all sounds horrible but i dont think i'm gutsy enough to run out on the streets.... good question

  2. well honestly, it depends. if my life was in absolute danger, I know if I took my chances on the outside world I could be sent to a camp, than I could. It would be an adjustment, in the most extreme sense of the word, but I would just have to remind myself that my friends are dying, other family members are dying and that if I wasn't here, I would be too. Look at history, what have other people done to survive?

The secret Annex was also much better than some hiding places for Jews, some hid in damp basements, and most couldn't have their family all together, so, If I was going to hide, I want to be hidden like Anne was. With her family.

Of course, its easy for me to down play it because I'm not hiding so, who really knows I guess.

  3. That's a very hard question to answer and I'm not sure what I would do. I can't even imagine what she went through it is simply beyond comprehension to me. However I do like to think positive and remain hopeful, I like to envision a bright future so I think I could do it but it sure wouldn't be easy.

  4. Well it's easy to say yes now. But being put into that situation would be devastating. I would do pretty much anything to survive. Being hungry is always hard for me, and I can not keep quiet.

If we were to go back to Europe during WWII, my family and I would be safe. We are catholic. I think back now and say 'Yes, I would save as many as possible.' But would we really? People were taught that Jews were a disgrace. They were "unworthy" compared to the Germans.

    WWII was a dreadful time.

  5. Im not sure i think i could because i want to live. i care about my life and the wellbeing of my family and friends so i would do whatever it takes to protect myself and everyone else. yeah i could even share a room with an old man but he better not touch me. she had no choice anyway, did she?

  6. I don't even want to think about being in a situation like that...

Its horrendous and terrible that children DID have to go through all of that.

I don't think I can even imagine it.

  7. Good question.

It'd be so hard to say yes I could because it's not something I can imagine at all. It must have been so hard for. I'm sure there were times when she just wanted to run into the street and not even care if she was caught.

But I think if it was a matter of life or death, then yes I think I could. She was lucky to have her diary and books where she could 'escape' to. Now a days it wouldn't be so hard because we've got Playstations and Tvs, laptops and movies, but back then it would have been a lot harder.

    ...

  8. Im going to put it like this:

If it was a matter of life and death to live like she did, yes, I would live like her... But if I had the choice I would not live like that. I think she is a true hero !
