Hi, so I've gone to the dentist twice over the past 6 months, and he has said both times my teeth are very healthy. But my problem is, in between two back molars the gums hurt so bad. Bad enough that everytime I floss it bleeds quite a bit (for a tooth) If the dentist says my teeth are healthy then what the heck is wrong with that one spot in my mouth?!!? Thanks

  1. If you are experiencing gums that bleed then you must know that bleeding gums are not normal.  In the early stage of gum disease which refers to gingivitis, gums usually appear red, swollen and easily bleeding.  At this stage the disease is still reversible, and can be eradicated by daily brushing and flossing with proper technique.  If the gum disease advances because it is left untreated, to a more serious stage called periodontitis, there is a serious damage to the gums and bones that support the teeth.  It a must to see a dental expert if you experience bleeding gums so that you will be advised and given the treatments that you may need once the dentist have finished checking your gum condition.

  2. When your gums bleed it is an indication that your gums are unhealthy with perhaps prestages of gingivitis! When you brush, make sure to brush your gums good...not just your teeth. And brush them for awhile. Within a week you will feel better!

  3. You might have a cavity under the gum or an abscess; at the very least you could have some plaque you're not able to reach which is causing the gum infection (aka gingivitis) which in turn hurts and bleeds when you floss there.

I'd get a new dentist - the one you're seeing is not taking care of you well. He/she should be advising you how to keep your gums healthy - this is actually the most important thing to oral health.

  4. Go to a different dentist to get a second opinion.
