Question:

Teeth erosion from bulimia?

I've been making myself throw up for about 9 months now. (DON'T PREACH! I am going to get help very soon.) I have to go to the dentist. Will he be able to tell that I am bulimic because of tooth erosion? Do you think that my tooth erosion is that noticible yet? (I throw up about once or twice a day.) If he is able to tell will he tell my mom about it?

  1. This is the exact way I was able to confirm bulimia in my own daughter, by a dental exam, YES they will know, I dont know if they will tell your mom, but for my daughter, who is now 26, she needs dentures as she has ruined her teeth.  She only did this for about six months when she was 16, and on occasion since.  The teeth rot from the inside out, so even though you may not be able to see the damage, it is there.  Get your self the help you say you are going to and fast.  Good luck!

  2. See my avatar? That is my smile but I have dental implants. I ruined my teeth by being bulimic for 30 years. Trust me it isn't just a teen thing.  I had some other dental issues but the bulimia took all my enamel off my teeth. Please stop it isn't the answer to being thin.

If you need someone to talk too click my name. I do understand.

  3. I don't think he'd tell your mother, unless he's like a family dentist and knows your mom well. That's possible.

But, I think, without seeing what your teeth look like, he could notice that you're bulimic, because when you throw up, stomach acids come out and they can affect your teeth, staining and/or eroding them.
