Teeth extraction for braces?

I got my braces today and my orthodontist says four teeth needs to be taken out. Is teeth extraction very painful? Does it prevent you from going to school? And how long does it take for the gaps to close?

i got 2 teeth taken out - it was painful , very !!  .. your mouth is numb from pain but u can still feel the pressure of your teeth being pulled out !!! (awful!)

my gums hurt for about a week & cold wind really made it sting & bleed .

my advice ?

shut your eyes & think about happy times lol !

if you get all four teeth out at the same time, then take the day off school. after you get teeth out, you should be relaxing.

Extractions depend on the person. I got teeth out because i needed braces, and in 10 minutes i was finished and i didn't feel a thing!

You will be numbed tho, so you wont be able to feel anything.

It depends how long the gaps will close with your braces. couple of months maybe?
