Teeth grinding cause of my headaches? even though they happen later in the day?

Okay, so I've been getting these headaches lately and I've noticed my jaw and teeth have been kind of sore. So after visiting one dentist he said I might have a TMJ disorder. Then after visiting another dentist, he saw that I definitely am grinding my teeth (I've been stressing out because of the Dental Admission Test) and suggested an NTI mouthguard ($395).

The thing is, my headaches seem to go away in the morning or earlier in the day, but worsen later in the day and into the night. If grinding is the issue, shouldn't it be the other way around? And also, if any one knows, is that $395 a reasonable price for an NTI mouthguard? Thank you!!

  1. I know that after I got my nightguard, my headaches were MUCH better. I still have them, but they aren't as bad or as often. That includes headaches later on in the day, not just early morning.

My nightguard was around 200, but I believe my insurance paid for part of it.

  2. Seems like your stress would be worse later in the day anyhow so it seems natural your pain would be worse then. I'd give the mouthguard a try even if you don't think it will help your headaches--grinding your teeth is very bad for you.l

  3. i used to grind my teeth really bad when i was younger. i went to the chiropractor, he cracked my back and neck and i haven't grinded my teeth since. way better than a night gaurd
