Well I have a black spot on my molar and it is completely pain free. I heard I was supposed to poke it with a pin to see if it was a cavity. So, I did and it didn't hurt at all but it still was a little dent. Is it a cavity or not??

  1. If you poke it with a pin and it sticks, then it is a cavity. Kinda like if you stuck the tiny tip of the pin in a block of cheese, it will barely stick, however you can still pull it out. If it is sticky, then that's a tell tale sign its a cavity.

Not all cavities hurt. Even if you poke them they don't have to hurt unless the cavity has gotten so big it has made its way close to or toughing the nerve. Then it hurts.

Anyhow, sometimes if you have a cavity it won't stick if its in a groove deep enough and the tip of the pin doesn't ac tally get deep in the groove where the darkness is. So I'd go to the dentist and have them look at it. Better safe than sorry. If you wait till it start hurting then you end up with a huge filling or worse, a crown and root canal. Better to get is checked and if it is a small cavity, then you only need a small filling.

    :)

  2. you should have a catch not pain. If you have pain, its time for extraction or root canal treatment. Now is the time to do the filling because its not paining.
