Not sure what type of Tegu you want, there is more then just one breed.

By the looks of tegu's I'd say the 45 gallon would be too small to house. I'd make sure that you can actually own one of these in your state/country.

Measuring up to 3-4 feet in length they are the largest of all the tegus.  Adults weigh an average of 8-20 pounds.

    - personally I wouldn't want one of these -

You need at least a 100gallon tank

The desert iguanas reaches about 16 inches (40 cm) STL, with their SVL at about 4-5 inches (10-12.7 cm).

    They do hibernate

    12 to 18 inches

A maximum cage height of two feet is ideal and a cage depth minimum of 2 feet (4X2X2). This will provide adequate space for a single animal or a pair.

I'm sure if you goggled tegu, desert (NOT dessert) iguana, uromastyx you'd find more links for yourself

  2. Tegus grow to about 4 feet long. Some species of uromastyx grow to about 3 feet. The desert iguana grows to about 16 inches.

So a desert iguana or a uromastyx would be more suited to that tank than a tegu which will surely out grow it.

The person below must not have read the links that he/she provided on uromastyx because the links also state that the uromastyx (depending on species) may grow to 30 inches and over.

    Care sheets:

    Tegu: http://www.boaddiction.com/showthread.ph...

  3. just google them and compare them that way.  You'll find some much better info than on here.  it will be much more complete.

But 45 gallons won't be enough to hold a uromastyx or dessert iguana for long.  I'm not sure about a tegu.  A bearded dragon might be a little better, but even those would need a slightly bigger enclosure.
