Teimuraz Gabashvili slaughters Petru-Alexandru Luncanu in second qualifier – Mons Challenger 2012
World number 155, Teimuraz Gabashvili, clear the second qualifier of the Mons Challenger 2012 held at the hard courts of Belgium. He collected his straight sets win against Romanian underdog, Petru-Alexandru Luncanu, in nearly
one hour on Sunday.
The 23-year-old Romanian star commenced a sloppy start of the initial set, as he was unable to preserve his serve. The Russian displayed his superior experience and clinched the initial two games, craving a 2-love lead in the start.
Although, Luncanu struggled hard, his effort yielded no results and he proved insignificant in front of his challenger. Gabashvili held his composure and cashed away another break point in the sixth game. Eventually, he marked the opener closure with a 6-2
score line.
The left-hander Romanian junior maintained an average initial serve presentation of 66 percent, while bagging 13 of 21 first and two of 11 second delivery points. He was not able to capitalize on even a single serve break, whereas
his rival preserved his lead by winning two of three points. The Russian professional had a superior initial serve accuracy of 88 percent, converting 14 of 15 first and all of the two second delivery points.
Ranked 434th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Luncanu, held his serve in the second set and took hold of the opportunity to mark a 1-0 score. However, Gabashvili dusted away his opponent by squaring the scores to 1-all
and then marked his lead by 2-1. He completely demolished Luncanu’s confidence and did not give him a single opportunity. He swiped away his rival’s remaining serve with a remarkable poise. He stayed focused throughout the set and ultimately stole the match
with a 6-1.
The 27-year-old, Gabashvili, was unable to display his previous high precision initial serve and he landed down to 50 percent. Nonetheless, he covered up for the loss by clinching all seven of seven in the first and five of seven
delivery points. The Romanian participant double faulted twice at the critical moments in the set and had a relatively improved initial serve presentation. On the other hand, he could merely pocket away just 13 of 24 first and three of 11 second delivery points.
The Russian participant won three of nine break points whereas Luncanu was unable to secure any.
