Tejaswi Sagar ousts Vignesh S in quarter-final of Udupi 5 Star State Ranking Badminton Tournament
India’s talented shuttler Tejaswi Sagar showed staggering performance as he has secured his berth in Boy’s Singles U15 semi-final after beating his team-mate Vignesh S in quarter-final contest at the Udupi 5 Star State Ranking Badminton Tournament in India,
on Tuesday, July 10.
The passionate Tejaswi displayed his impressive skills and remained successful in ousting his higher ranked opponent in an epic battle that took three games of amazing badminton from both sides.
The un-seeded Tejaswi lost the opening set to the fourth seeded Vignesh but he powered back to clinch the second game with a huge margin. In the deciding game, he remained on track and took the set with a tight margin and advanced into the next stage.
In the meanwhile, Vignesh could not maintain his focused run in the tournament while playing against his lower ranked but spirited opponent.
The higher ranked Vignesh took the first game easily but failed to maintain his rhythm and eventually lost the following sets to Tejaswi.
In the opening game, Vignesh was in commanding position as he dictated the pace and also earned points with his impressive smashes which kept his rival on back foot. Until the break, Vignesh was the leader of the game on score board.
After the interval, Tejaswi tried to cope up with the pace of rallies but he could not control the bird and lost the first game with a one-sided score of 14-21.
Nevertheless, second game was entirely different when Tejaswi showed his class by executing beautiful net shots followed by powerful jumping smashes. He took an amazing lead against his higher ranked compatriot until the break.
After the interval, Tejaswi continued his smooth run on court with a surprising ease and bagged the set with a stunning 21-14 score on the board.
In the decider, both boys showed their aggression and kept each other on toes. They played attacking badminton all the way until the ending points when Tejaswi showed his brilliance and took the set with a tight score of 21-19.
Tejaswi emerged as the winner of this quarter-final battle in three sets with an interesting 14-21, 21-14 and 21-19 margin on the score board.
