Tekken: Blood Vengeance to hit the cinemas this summer
After two rather disappointing adaptations of Namco’s popular fighting game series, Tekken, a new movie of the franchise has been announced. The latest film, titled Tekken: Blood Vengeance, is a computer graphics (CG) generated adaptation of the game. It
is expected to hit the cinemas this summer.
The executive producer of Tekken, Katsuhiro Harada, shared a few details of the latest feature. Harada revealed that the storyline of the new movie is set between Tekken 5 and 6 and coincides with the Tekken fiction.
The creation of the movie includes contributions from some of the top most talent. This includes Youichi Mouri, the person behind the opening cinematic for Tekken 5 and 6, taking on the responsibility of directing the film. Dai Sato, well known for his Cowboy
Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: SAC, will be taking responsibility for the screenplay. The group responsible for developing Resident Evil: Degeneration will be handing the CG of the latest Tekken film. Anyone who has seen their previous work would be aware of
their rich talent when it comes to CG.
Fans had been begging for a CG feature of the game since the days of Tekken 2 and 3. However, it had been quite impossible to go for a feature film due to technical reasons. The fans did however, get to watch two adaptations of the fighting game. The first
movie was an animated feature released in 1998, while the second was a live-action motion picture released in 2010. Both the films got a poor reception from the critics as well as the fans.
It was after a four-minute opening cinematic of Tekken 6 that the game makers seriously started considering the creation of a CG Tekken movie.
The film will be released in both English and Japanese language. Some of the game’s original voice actors will be used in the upcoming release as well.
"We tried as much as possible to use the same voice actors as in the game," said Harada-san.
Majority of the video game fans prefer to see a movie adaptation of the game using CG as it manages to retain the original elements of the game and add some amount of realism to it.
The hopes are quite high from the upcoming feature. We’ll just have to wait and see how the latest attempt at the Tekken movie adaptation turns out.
