Question:

Telecallers are calling my number despite the fact that it is registred with the national do not call registry

I am a customer of Airtel India. I had requested Airtel to register my number with the national do not call registry. After a waiting for 45 days I learnt that my number is successfully registred with the national do not call registry.

Still I am getting calls from Telecallers on a daily basis. What can I do?

I called up Airtel and gave the number of telecaller to Airtel. Airtel told me that they will send a warning letter to the Telecaller.

I'm afraid that this won't stop the telecaller from making calls as Airtel is not police.

Is there any way where the number of a telecaller can be directly reported to TRAI so that they telecaller can be fined?

Please let me know how can I deal with these annoying telecallers (now that there is a rule in India to fine these people).

  1. Hi Abhishek Srivastava,

Unfortunately, a lot of the telemarketers get around the law on technicalities.

"Political" callers (of course) are exempt as are charitable organizations and anyone who you have conducted business with.

Here is one example of how they duck the law - I constantly get calls trying to sell me stuff. The caller will say they are representing "US NEWS & World Reports" to which I do subscribe. By "representing" he means they sell subscriptions to it along with the other thousand things they sell.

If the caller ID is blocked or says "Toll Free Service" or "Unknown Caller" I let it go to voice mail.
