Telekinesis? Self-Levitation?

Question

Is Telekinesis possible? If so, is it possible to learn? If so, how?

Is Levitation possible? I am not talking about balancing on one foot or cutting a slit in your pants, I mean real levitation like Criss Angel did in the Luxor Light. If so, is it possible to learn? If so, how?

Both Telekinesis and levitation are magic tricks.

Some people become self-deluded that they have the ability of telekinesis because they have learned to perform the trick in lucid dreams. However, they are not able to perform outside of thier own lucid dreams.

Levitation is performed mostly by magicians, of course, as a stage act. I love David Blains levitation trick myself.

It is also performed as the highest level of trancendental meditation. One must be alone in a perfectly still enviroment in order to acheive it. It has been studied and it was found that the part of the brain that senses the orientation of the body shuts down during those deep meditative sessions, thus giving the sensation of free floating.

Neither of these tricks has ever been performed without the use of self-delusion or illusion.

If they ever are, science would take them serious, and you would see a new branch of science open up. It would be huge. James Randi would be shut down, hard! But I don't think thats gonna happen. Although Randi might be a bit of a jerk, he is probably right.

Sorry psi, there is no valid evidence for telekinesis.  The only studies exploit tiny deviations from the expected statistical outcomes in so called "random" machines.  Fact is, these effects are so small that they are insignificant and cannot be magnified in any way.  You need to do statistical magic to even notice what you think is scientifically valid evidence.  There is no evidence that any organism can exert a force on an external object with its thoughts.  The reason those so called researchers use those "random" machines is because they know that they will find no evidence any other way.  For instance, if somebody could truly exert any kind of force, however minute it might be, then why haven't they demonstrated it with modern scales.  These instruments can measure effects of force down to micronewtons.  The reason is because it's all B.S.  They've tried and failed miserably.  So they now retreat to statistical analysis of "random" machines, exploiting anomalies of chance. Robert Park calls it voodoo science, I call it c**p.

Chris Angel will be the first to tell you it's a trick.I heard him myself on Penn's radio show.They are both impossible. If either were, I'm sure you'd see it all the time.Objects flying all over the place and folks floating down the street.

Telekinesis has been tested for with the most sensitive and careful tests imaginable and has never been detected.

Levitation has never been seen. If you ever see those movies of Transcendental Meditators levitating it is laughable -- they are bouncing and hopping.

Criss Angel is a performing magician -- everything he does is trickery.

First, telekinesis (now called psychokinesis) has scientifically valid evidence establishing it's existence. This research is not without it's critics (none of whom are published in peer reviewed journals as is the actual research). The effects however are very small (usually effecting things like random number generators and before that falling dice) and it takes statistics to even find the effect.

I have not read the research on any attempts at levitation so unlike the skeptics I will not comment except to say I am unaware of any attempt at controlled studies of levitation. I do agree that Chris Angel's is a magic trick and not some actual extraordinary ability.

Actually, to correct a load of disinformation someone unloaded above. there is no scientifically valid evidence for telekinesis whatsoever. All that the psi fans have to desperately hang on to is some shoddy research done by a disbanded research group at Princeton many years ago. The research has been ripped apart up and down for its bad statistical analysis and its bad methods by both scientists and other parapsychologists, and today it's virtually ignored like all bad science. It was a failed experiment, which is okay, because science proceeds even when experiments fail. But what's funny is that this is all the psi folks can point to when trying to support their cause. Just some outdated, refuted experiments and that's all they've got. Pretty sad, really.
