we all know, especially pesimists, that there has been million dollars offered to one who prowes under scientists eyes that paranormal activities like pyro, psiho, hydro or any other kinesis are possible, and we all know nobody collected it so-far.

the first thing that comes to mind to other people is that thats not possible, coz nobody would refuse million dollars.

my question is :why do so many people believe in aliens and millitary/guverment conspiracy teories and coverups.(the fact that they know more that we think they do abaut those sort of things).isnt t possible that something simmilar has happened to people with true superhuman abbilities.that the fear of being prosicuted is the reason they are not comin out in public.i can see 3 things happening in reveal case - one third of people would think its cool, second would think they are sick people and freaks, trird half would wanna explore that power for bad things.i dont think it would be so easy to go in public f i were one.

  1. So you are suggesting that there are a few genuine people with superhuman abilities hiding out in fear of persecution, while all the psychics, clairvoyants, fortune tellers etc that openly brag about their prowess are just fakes with nothing to fear?

Well, I agree with part of that idea.

  2. If telekinesis is real, its improbable that only 1 person and noone else has the power. If this is the case, the person is probably dead, or will die eventually, and telekinesis will no longer exist.

It is assumed that if it exists, there is more than one person capable of performing it. Lets assume .000001% of the population is born with this extrodinary gift. There would be 8000 people in the world with this gift. Do you really think out of 8000 people, not one of them would be tempted to go for the million dollars. Realistically, most of those people would be glad to go public, and many would give thier lives to proving thier abilities so thier families will not have to live in poverty.

Heck, I would find it highly improbable for 10 people in the world to resist an easy million dollars.

  3. I won't pretend to know what motivates the beliefs of some, but I am under the impression that so many people believe in aliens because it's fun to think we aren't alone in the universe.  As with many other anomalous experiences, people are quick to assume something has an ET source because there is a pre-existing cultural explanation for such things.  See something flying that you can't immediately identify?  Well, it must be a UFO.

It's in our nature (at least here in the US) to question authority.  We are defensive not only because we have been taken advantage of by our government many times in the past, but also because it's easy to demonize the Big Bad Government (Big Pharma, etc.)  It's a faceless, impersonal and non-specific target of scorn.

It would certainly be a convenient excuse to say that people with ESP won't take the Million Dollar Challenge because they are afraid of being kidnapped or prosecuted.  However, I don't see any evidence or reason to suggest this is the case.  I think you're reaching a bit here.

The X-Men are not real.  They're just comic book characters.

  4. aside from the fear of persecution however i know that skeptics would find a way to disprove the existence and a believer/practitioner would make excuses to prove the credibility

also many believe the ability is more of a dormant natural human ability not a gift/power

  5. "So many people" may mean a lot of people on a large population, but a small proportion overall.

The fact is that people like to believe in something, that is what religions were invented, and keep being invented. Take scientology, invented 56 years ago, claiming that alien spirit roam the Earth.

The point is that the believers in the paranormal are very vocal, people write books about it, some people buy them; and want to be "open minded" about that stuff. Also, lots of people lack the training, formation and technical expertise to dismiss claims of paranormal/alien; and are reluctant to admit their first perception is not real. That could be human nature. Animals are naturally scared of tigers, even if they cannot understand the whole concept of "tigers will kill and eat you", they will flee an approaching tiger. So, instead of trying to analyze things from an objective point of view, they will jump to conclusion and "mentally flee" anything that seems odd, assuming some higher power.

In the middle age, people were frequently burned and executed because they were witches. Do witches exist? Of course not. But they were convinced they did, and anything bad happening had to be the result of some higher power, with an evil conspiracy and cover-up.

Rationality is harder and more demanding that superstition, and people are lazy.

  6. Not being British,Canadian or American. You probably can't see how unlikely that is.Your theory is another excuse added to a very long list of them.

  7. True, true, true and true because if you found yourself one of 'them' you'd probably find a catchy little handle like Mycroft that you use to post on the psychic boards. The government can always find out who you are. It is best to keep your professional life separate, because of the other 2/3.
