Question:

Telemarketers?

A couple of nights a week a woman calls my house telling me that I have won a free cell phone. Everytime she calls I tell her that I am not interested and I ask her to stop calling. She always calls at between 8:30 and 9:00 at night when my 1 year old is sleeping. The last couple of times that she has called she has hung up on me. When I call the number back it either does not ring or just goes straight to an answering machine that only says "thank you for calling customer care, leave a message", I leave a message and they never call me back. I am getting very frusterated with this, especially since I am on the do no call list. Is there anything I can do about this?

  1. If she is a frequent caller, by now you know her script.  Listen to the background noises instead of listening to her - is she calling from a call centre?.  Interrupt her and say that there is some mistake, your name is on the "Do Not Call" list.  Ask to speak to her supervisor, or just tell her politely that you do not accept unsolicited telephone calls and hang up.  The key here is to hang up!!  It would seem to me that if you get the same call at the same time night after night, she is working from a predictive dialler - your number happens to come up at the same time each night.  That tells me that the person loading the calls into the dialler is not doing a very good job.  Ask to speak to the supervisor, don't yell or scream, just tell them that you will no longer accepting their calls.

  2. next time she calls yell at her tell her if she calls again u will call the cops

  3. I would call or go on line and make a complaint with the do not call list, give them as much information as you can name, company, phone number, days and times of calls.  I had to do this a while back and it worked.  Best of luck

  4. 1. Put your numbers on the "Do Not Call List".

    2. When she calls next time, get her name, phone number and the name of the company, then report them on the www.ftc.gov website

  5. I hate them. They are several steps below on the evolutionary scale to bankers and slightly above politicians.

  6. dont answer for a couple of days

  7. I have heard that if you punch # like 6 or 7 times, the computer that runs the autodialer will get confused and mark your number as an inactive number.  Not sure if this works but worth giving a try.

  8. if you are in the UK u can register for TPS...

The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a central opt out register whereby individuals can register their wish not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls. It is a legal requirement that companies do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS.

  9. are they even called that now, but anyways I'm on the no call list too and blocked number that don't show up on caller id and they still get threw some how the best way is too tell them no take you off the list and hang up!!! call phone company and complain hope this help.....

one more thing take down their name and then tell them if they call again they will get sued for harassment

  10. Yes they seem to call always at the wrong time and if I tell them no and they still try to talk....just hang up on them they will stop calling

  11. You could always prank order them pizza! that would be quite amusing!

  12. call your phone provider, they can set you up with a service that blocks numbers .  They will be able to assist you.

i had same problem, different company. called at & t and they set me right up.  No more problems

    God bless

  13. Put your phone # on the do not call list

    www.donotcall.gov

  14. Ensure your phone number is on your state and the country-wide do not call list. https://www.donotcall.gov/

Then after that is completed (or if it already is) as soon as they call again, file a complaint on the above web page.

Also, the next time the person calls, as soon as the person starts talking say "I am on the do not call list, transfer me to your manager"
