How does long distance calls differ from local, extended,zone,toll,trunk,international/o... calls and premium/pay per call in general including rate and billing method?

The cost of long distance calling strictly depends on your telephone service carrier.  Prices and packages are all over the place.  You just need to do the homework, research, and price comparisons.

In general terms, you pay for all long distance charges for the calls you initiate.  How you are billed just depends on your service provider.

The people you call pay nothing for receiving your calls.  However, if the people you call are on cell phones, they may get charged for the own cell service "air time".  You have no control over that.  That is just a matter of their own service package and how it is charged.

So, yes, if you call someone on their cell, they may get air time charges, but Not long distance charges.

Who is your carrier?  I use Vonage so that is not an issue for me.

Vonage does provide free calling to some countries outside the US.

However, if you call from a landline to a longdistance cell phone, the regular long distance rates would apply.
