Telephone conversations?

I wanted to talk to a friend on the phone so i dial but all of a sudden, i hear another persons conversation??and i couldnt talk to my friend until those people were off the phone . Does this happen to you? and what do i do to avoid thiss

It happened to me a lot about a year ago. I called the phone company and reported the problem. They came out and fixed it. Turns out it was some kind of leak in a cable near my home. Call your phone company. They'll be able to fix it in just a few hours.

Sounds to me like you're probably experiencing Cross talk.  Voltage from one cable pair is bleeding over bad enough to another that you are able to hear other conversations.  Definitely a phone company trouble.  If at all possible, find out what the phone # is of the other party that you are hearing (if you can talk to them....sometimes you can.....sometimes you can't) as this will help your tel-co resolve the problem quicker.
