Im having a problem with my telephone and I cant figure it out. Maybe someone out there in cyber land can help me understand and offer some advice. I belong to AT&T and also have the internet (DSL) through AT&T. Just two days ago I was about to make a phone call and noticed their was no dial tone on my telephone. Thinking maybe my phone was broken I hooked up an older spare phone to the same jack and that one also had no dial tone. the cords going to the phone to the jack and the computer are all hooked in, no loose ones, and the internet is working fine. I cant understand what the problem can be? Scratching my head on that one.

  1. There are a few things to know about a DSL line before you try to troubleshoot it. 1. DSL and the dial tone share the same pair of wires that gives your service. 2. You can get dial tone on a phone without a filter but it will sound noisy. 3. DSL will sometimes work on the line even though there is a break in one side of the line, thus, no dial tone. The easiest way to check your wiring is to uhplug the modem from your jack and see if you get dialtone. Don't worry about a filter, this is just a test) If you have dialtone, you know the problem is with the other jack or jacks. If no dial tone, check if you have a NID outside. Open the customer side and follow the directions inside for testing the line. If no dial tone there, it's a TELCO problem. Hope this helps.

  2. Make sure your DSL filter is properly hooked up!

  3. Call the phone company!!!
