Telephone wiring????? 10 points?

Question

i have took the 2nd wire and the 5th wire out of the phone socket of the adsl fiter, how do i hear conversations using these two wires and a speaker, becausase it dosent work using just them two connected to either side of a small speaker, or do i need a different wire (s) or a diode or something like that

It wont work without an amplifier.However....

You obviously don't know what you are doing so leave well alone!!!

the phone line works on a 50v signal, you cant plug a standard speaker into it. go to maplins.com, they have some devices there under the telephone listening devices category, the audio adapter costs around £10 and you can plug it into a portable radio as long as it has audio in/ mic in.

The easy way is to connect 2 & 5 to a slave socket and plug a phone into it.
