Question:

Telephoning a bar manager to enquire about work?

This is really childish, but I'm terrible at things like this, so I was looking for some advice. I haven't seen any jobs advertised, but I'm just going to call around.

Them: Hello

Me: Hello, may I speak to the manager please

Them: Speaking

Me: I was wondering if you're currently looking to employ any bar staff?

Them: Yes/No..

What do I say after they say yes, if they do? Or just any tips in general would be great. I'm uncomfortable calling my friends even, so know I'm going to get tongue tied.

And it's not possible to visit in person due to opening times etc.

So any tips?

  1. Calling is not the best way: turn up in person at a quiet time (early in shift) then try and spot the senior person there. As a big part of bar work is presentation make sure you look good and are dressed well.

  2. Just say do I need to come in and ask for anyone specifically or just fill out an application?  They will let you know what needs to be done and who to see.  They may even ask if you've waited tables before, bartended, etc.

  3. Just say 'well, I'm currently seeking work at the moment, I have X experience in bar work, would you be interested in taking a look at my resume?

    Cheers :o)
