Telescope to be seen in next year’s Derby
Connections are intended to run Galileo’s young son, Telescope, in one of the Derby trials next year. Owned by Highclere Thoroughbred Racing –Wavertree, Sir Michael Stoute’s charge has been rated an exciting prospect following a terrific victory at Newmarket
last month.
The 2-year-old started his career with a huge, when missing the gold only by a short head’s distance at Royal Ascot early September. Bred by Barronstown Stud, the juvenile quickly raised his game to ensure a classy victory in the British Stallion Studs Supporting
British Racing EBF Maiden Stakes (Colts & Geldings).
Owner Harry Herbert and his team have been engaged in presenting their new purchases to the syndicate members. The announcement of many new trainers is also highly likely. Talking about the latest bunch of yearling purchases, Harry Herbert pinpointed Telescope,
and revealed his discussion with Sir Michael Stoute about the future plans.
"Telescope looks very exciting. Sir Michael was here the other day and I asked him in front of everybody what his plans for the horse might be and he did say that he would look at running in one of the Derby trials. There is so much to come physically and
he's one to look forward to,” said Herbert.
He also talked about the Avington Manor Stud-bred son of Dansili, Persepolis, who made a couple of fine efforts earlier this month. After ending up fifth on debut at Yarmouth, the 2-year-old got his act together, and seized the runner-up spot in a tough
competition at Lingfield on October 17th.
He continued: "Sir Michael has another nice horse for us called Persepolis, who was second in a decent maiden at Lingfield and will probably wait for next season now, as will Homage, who won his maiden at Kempton."
Another Highclere Thoroughbred Racing-Pocahontas-owned, Vow, is set to make a step down in class after her disappointing effort at the graded level. In a Group 2 contest at Royal Ascot, the William Haggas-trained finished 9th in the field of ten.
Showing full trust in her abilities, the owner explained that the filly will run a Listed race at Lingfield in the beginning of November.
