Telescope to miss Royal Ascot – Horseracing News
Telescope will not take part in the Royal Ascot and the Irish Derby, as he has not yet recovered from the injury he sustained earlier this year.
The three-year-old colt started off his career in a positive manner in 2012 and was expected to appear in some major events this season. He was getting ready for the Investec Derby and was rated quite highly by the bookies but
unfortunately, he failed to prove his fitness in the end. Therefore, his team decided to rest him for some time.
According to Syndicate manager Harry Herbert, “Telescope has been through a lot in a short space of time before the Derby and Sir Michael doesn't feel it would be right to take him to Royal Ascot where he is entered in the Group
2 King Edward VII Stakes.”
He added, “In his words he says he just needs to regroup with the horse and see where we are later on. It's a long season and we still have a lot of faith in the horse.”
Telescope took part in a practice run last month but he was not comfortable at all. It was clear that he had a swelling on his leg, so there was no point running him in any of the main events.
The Irish challenger has taken part in just two races until now. He was rated as the favourite in both of them, but was unable to meet the expectations of the bookies on his debut. However, he did manage to secure the runner up
spot back then and that too by a short head distance.
Afterwards, the Sir Michael Stoute’s trainee brought up his maiden victory at Newmarket. It is really unfortunate that he has been unable to participate in any race after that. He could have managed to win the Investec Derby, especially
because of the fact that Dawn Approach finished at the bottom of the table.
Even a top-three finish in the mega event would have boosted Telescope’s confidence, but luck was not on his side. However, the positive thing is that he is still very young and has got a chance to make a comeback to the sport
soon in order to prove his skills to everyone.
