Question:

Telescopic Ladders - Are They As Good As They Look?

by  |  earlier

I've been thinking about getting a 12 foot Telescopic Ladder for general use around the house, cleaning windows, getting into the loft, and the occasional bit of DIY.

If you've got one, can you please tell me what they are like and how easy and sturdy they are to use. Also I've only been able to find them on Shopping Channels and Ebay, does anyone know if they are available in any stores in the UK?

Many Thanks

  1. I am an electrician and have used one, ( I am in fact on my second 'improved version) for about 10 years now, I always have it in my van, much, much more convenient than a ladder, especially if I have to pass through a few rooms to the job. However I have seen other brands and would only use the original and best 'Telesteps' they were reduced at Makro a few weeks ago, or contact me if you need more info.

  3. yes

  4. I have a folding Werner telescopic ladder that extends 15 feet I think. It is similar to a little giant ladder and it holds approx 300 lbs. i bought it on ebay alot cheaper than a little giant and also because Werner is one of the best names in ladders!

  5. Try the s***w fix site.

A friend of mine has some,he's a property surveyor, and he swears by them.Hardly take up any space in his car.

    Get good quality.

  6. The best and original telescoping/folding ladder is made by Little Giant

they are a little pricey but I love mine

it folds up and I can store it in the corner of the garage

now that the patent has expired knock-offs are out there now

made by two or three different companies

try your local home improvement store

I know Menards carries the knock off under the name Gorilla Ladder

  7. Yes and no.  They are ok for fairly low level work but as you will appreciate, each section is of a smaller diameter than the preceeding one.  I would not want to be working on one at any height.  Fine for clearing the gutters say in a single storey Bungalow. I would not want be be working on one much higher than that - I have only one life and I would prefer not to spend what is left of it in a wheelchair.

Surveyors often carry them for getting into lofts.

  8. aye but dont stand on them for long as the rungs are very narrow and really hurt your feet

  9. Are you talking about an extension ladder?  If so, yes, they are great.  I use them all the time in my job.  I have a 24' in my garage for work around the house.  You should be able to get them in most home centers and hardware stores.  I would recommend an aluminum for you.  It's strong and lightweight.  But be VERY careful when working near power lines, since aluminum conducts electricity quite well.  Hope this helps.
