Television ratings of Division Series come down from last year, 2.7 to 2.4 in current season - MLB
Television ratings for Division Series in the current season have declined to 2.4 as opposed to 2.7 which were registered last year. It has been reported that in the previous year, most of the teams that made it to the playoffs owned larger markets. Thus,
a greater number of fans watched their matches.
In-contrast, in the on-going season smaller-market clubs managed to sneak in the post-season, which resulted in fewer numbers of viewers tuned in for the games.
Ratings can hardly be taken as a fall in interest of the fans. Whenever the teams that were supposed to please their fans fail, they discourage them badly. They dishearten them to such an extent that they relinquish watching the matches of other teams.
It is basically about the intensity of the loyalty of the fans with their respective clubs.
Unable to see their club qualifying for the upcoming stages of the season, they do not want to add anything to their woes by witnessing other organisations experiencing glory.
Clubs that entertain massive fan-bases cannot continue performing the way their followers want every year.
Sometimes they go through lean periods and deter fans as a result. Their exclusion from the playoffs, pave the way for the teams that host smaller fan-bases.
In the current season the Washington Nationals, St. Louis Cardinals and the Oakland Athletics made it to the post-season. In light of this, it is understandable why the ratings have dwindled.
The Nationals are in the process of developing a widespread fan-following. It will take consistent performances over the years by them to enter into the category of the organisations that boast a vast fan-base.
Although with an impressive performance in the current season the Nationals have attracted a huge audience from the capital, they are still far from many other teams in the Major League.
Some of the teams have been eliminated through Division Series. Most of the clubs that are now playing the National League Championship Series belong to high-profile section of the organisations in the Major League.
It will be interesting to observe as to how the ratings differ from last year in the NLCS.
