  3. Telex is still around.

    It is charged by the minute, and is very expensive compared to fax (which used plain unconditioned telephone lines) and email (which is free). However, telex confirms reception by transmitting the answerback (exchanging addresses) at the start and end of message. Telex is still used in shipping and banking industries.

    Think of it like email, but on a private network and with confirmed sender and receiver addresses. (In fact, telex directories were commonly published in times past).

    I reiterate that telex is quite expensive; a typical message of 50 or so words costs about USD$3. So you'll never get spammed on telex!
