Tell me about DLP LED technology, as used in Samsung's new HDTV series.?

From what I understand, it replaces the need for both lamps and a colorwheel, which reduces the overall sound the set makes and eliminates the need for lamp replacements as the TV ages.

Is this too good to be true? What are the downsides, if any?

  1. The main downside is that these LEDs are not very bright.

In general, rear-projection TVs have a much better picture in a dark room. Off-angle viewing is not that great either.

These days, plasma and new 10-bit LCDs can display usually more colors than 8-bit DLPs.

In general, DLP LED rear-projection TVs are very close in price range with Plasma, and I would buy a plasma if I could afford the difference.

  2. I have copied some reasons to buy DLP HDTV. These are the pros I'm not sure what all the cons are but the lamp replacement cost should be looked into.

    1)Bright Vibrant Color

( An enhanced color palette creates a

       vivid viewing experience)

2)Razor sharp images and on screen text

       (No motion blur)

    3)Amazing Clarity

      (Crystal Clear Images)

    4)Lifelike images

       (DLP Smooth Picture(TM) Technology

eliminates pixelization and screen door effect)

    5) High Contrast

      (Offers high contrast ratios)

    6) Long Lasting

(Images wont burn in over time).

    7) Renewable Performance

(Performs like new with simple lamp replacement)

    8) Value

    (Prices are competitive)

  3. it is too good to be true i work at a store that sells the tv that your talking about and the color has faded in less than a year and a half, and the tv is now disgusting to look at compared to similar prized lcd's that have been for a similar length of time.
