  1. In England, Wales and Scotland, you need to be licenced by the SIA (Security Industry Authority) if your job involves certain tasks:

    1: "manned guarding": including:

    guarding cash or valuables in transit;

    close protection (bodyguard);

    door supervision (bouncer);

    CCTV surveillance operator; and

    being a security guard.

    2: Clamping and/or removing vehicles.

    3: Key holding.

    These are all separate licences; they cost around £250 each but if you need two different ones, you get a 50% discount on the second.

    The SIA will check various things before issuing you with a licence: these include whether you're qualified for the licence, your criminal record, mental health record.

    Here's the full info from SIA's own website: http://www.the-sia.org.uk/home/licensing...

    Training is widely available: do a websearch on "SIA licence training" to find a training centre near you.
